| Finally Well it just goes to say that a few pages on troubleshooting cant turn you all into computer engineers. It takes years to learn how to fix the main faults. Most of the problem solving process comes down to experience. Problem solving requires us to think in a slightly different way. A logical and methodical way. Working through each process to eliminate it before going to the next step. I hope that these few pages have at least given you some understanding and some confidence to try a few basic steps for yourselves before calling a help line or technician. If you cant fix the fault then eliminate as many things as possible. Make a list of any error messages and write down all the information about your system before calling a helpline or technician. Help lines in particular are very expensive. If you are prepared before you call you can cut the phone call quite considerably and thus save money. If you have found this session helpful and are interested in getting a little more knowledge. The easiest way to do this is to search the internet. Search for subjects such as "computer trouble shooting" or something similar and see what you find. You can always print the material off and use it as a reference for later. One important thing in trouble shooting is to stay calm and think logically. If you are getting frustrated or angry walk away and have a break. Then try again later with a clear mind. Lastly - I can't emphasize enough about the importance of the phrase "Prevention rather than cure" 1. keep things updated. 2. keep things clean and tidy 3. don't eat or drink over the computer 4. if possible un plug the computer during thunder storms 5. use anti virus software and keep it updated. |
